1900s New York Yacht Club Cup and Saucer
$295.00 / Sold Out
Beautiful hand-painted cup and saucer set with gold trim from the yacht Elreba (see photos). Both the cup and saucer feature the New York Yacht Club Burgee crossed with the private signal of Elreba owner Harry Darlington. A truly unique and incredibly rare piece of New York yachting history.
Elbreba was a 150-foot yacht built for Mr. Darlington, a businessman and member of the New York Yacht Club, in 1898. Darlington served in the Union Army during the Civil War before he went on to open his own brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1886 he sold the brewery and began investing, and over the ensuing decades built his fortune in railroads, steel, banks, glass and real estate.
Elreba was designed and built by Crescent Shipyard in New Jersey, and could reach and exceed speeds of 14 knots.
