Antique Hand-Blown Fisherman’s Float
Hand-blown glass float in a beautiful deep blue with original twine. Estimated 1950s. The dimple in the glass shows the point where the glass was blown. Perfect to sit or hang on a mantle or bookshelf.
Fishermen often used these floats to attach to their lines or nets to hold them up towards the surface of the water, or to mark the location of their traps. These were especially popular with Japanese deep sea fishermen in the mid 20th Century. Floats have been known to break free from boats in Japanese waters only to end up on the western shores of America - meaning they travelled all the way across the Pacific!
