Marlin is a one-of-a-kind commuter yacht designed by Boston naval architect Walter J. McInnis and built by Fred Lawley for Edsel B. Ford (son of Henry Ford) in Quincy, Massachusetts in 1930. She was later owned by the Kennedy family from 1952-1970 and then my grandfather from 1971-1998.
A lifelong yachtsman, President John F. Kennedy used Marlin for both business and pleasure throughout his political career. It was aboard Marlin that he often conferred with his cabinet and military advisors during the Cold War, or took more leisurely trips with wife Jackie and friends.
Marlin was purchased by my grandfather in 1971 and brought to Blue Point, Long Island, New York. With her home port at the Sayville Yacht Club, my family spent over 25 years enjoying trips aboard Marlin on the Great South Bay as well as longer journeys to Block Island, Montauk, and Mystic Seaport.
